First up:

What: The Fall Meeting of the North Central Chapter of the National Cartoonist Society in Omaha NE

Who: Events will be happening from Thursday through Saturday but the only ones open to the public will be on Saturday. There will be a presentation by Josh Cooley of Pixar and also Rick Kirkman and Tom Richmond will be talking about their USO trip to visit the troops in Iraq.

Note: The NAA will also be having their national conference in Omaha at the same time - members, look for the NCS table Thursday Night.

Who: Featured speakers - Steve Breen, Brendan Burford, Roz Chast, Tony Cochran, Jan Eliot, Tom Gammill, Matt Groening, Bill Griffith, Dave Kellet, Paul Levitz, Patrick McDonnell, Dan Piraro, Jen Sorensen, Art Spiegelman, James Sturm, Michael Tisserand, Gene Luen Yang. (Geez - I'm impressed just typing the roster!)

When: October 14-17

Where: Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum, Columbus Ohio

This event is by registration only and is probably closed at this time. However you should go over to their website and check! (You should go there anyway just to see the schedule of everything that's happening.)

Good News for the public: There are two events that are open to the general public: Saturday 7:00-8:30 P.M. "An Evening With Matt Groening" at the Mershon Auditorium 1872 N High St. and Sunday 3:00 P.M. Art Spiegelman (also at the Mershon Auditorium)

And, again, even though the panels are by registration only, about 75% of the members of the National Cartoonist Society will be wandering around the Ohio State campus (and probably the area bars and taverns as well) so if you're sharp, you might spot a few.

Bonus: Another Opportunity to see "One Fine Sunday in the Funny Pages" in The Union (next to the Wexner Center For The Arts)

We have our first cartoonist's schedule of public appearances for the next month and it's a doozy!

It comes from the irrepressible (and possibly as overbooked as I am) Keith Knight. Man, is he busy! If you can't manage to meet him in person, you're not hardly tryin'.

I know..This is as far from downtown Denver as it can possibly be, but anything worthwhile is never easy. Also, Enchanted Grounds consistently gets picked as one of the best cafes in the Denver area.  I?ll be drinking wine, signing books & spreading lies alongside local cartoonist/caricaturist (and my San Diego small press neighbor) Stan Yan.  Be there!!

Sat. & Sun.  Oct. 16th & 17th 11am-7pm: ALTERNATIVE PRESS EXPO, The San Francisco Concourse, 635 8th Street San Francisco

APE is bigger than ever this year.  So much so that for the first time in a long time, I?ll be located in a different spot on the floor.  With Steve Notley, Ted Rall, Matt Bors, Stephanie McMillan and more, this will be the biggest gathering of my Cartoonist with Attitude cohorts all year.  Come to my panel on Sunday!!

November 2010
Weds.-Sun.  Nov.3rd -7th : Las Vegas, Vegas Valley Book Festival
The Vegas Valley Book Festival, the largest literary event in Las Vegas, is scheduled for November 3?7, 2010, with most programs taking place at the historic Fifth Street School downtown. Now in its ninth year, this annual community festival was founded on the simple premise of ?bringing together those who write books and those who love to read them.? The festival will feature 100 authors, 100 events, with an attendance of 10,000 expected this year. All events are free and open to the public.

I?ll be doing a slideshow and tabling in Vegas.  Dressed as a showgirl.

How This Will Work

I will be largely relying on cartoonists to feed me their events. 

Cartoonsts:

Please contact me via the email button over on the sidebar. (Or my other private email if you're one of those people lucky to have it)

Please list the event you will be attending, complete with dates and times, and whether it is open to the public or only to other cartoonists. Also include whether you will be speaking or signing books or just creating general mischief. (Marathon bar hopping sessions you'll have to plug on your own time.) Please also include any links you think might be useful.

Once I have your information, I will post it here as soon as possible.

A Source For Meeting and Greeting Your Favorite Cartoonists

So I got this idea yesterday. 

I thought to myself "Wouldn't it be nice if cartoonists had a page on the Web where they and the public could go every day to find out who's doing a book signing or a public appearance or whatnot?"

(I need to stop having ideas like this - I'm overbooked as it is!)

It's going to take me a little while to really tweak it and get it to run smoothly (I'm still learning how to use typepad after 3 years of using blogger) but I'm really excited about it.

So here we go.....
