Back in 2020 I had a lot of big plans for growing the audience for my poetry, harp playing and speaking. Since these plans involved gatherings of people sitting close to one another in public places I think we all know what happened to that idea.
At first I took advantage of the lockdown to furiously produce material. I wrote more poems/comics, I posted Youtube videos of new harp music and I made my plans for when the world would return to “normal”.
I think I thought “normal” would be by the fall of 2020. Pretty sure we all know what happened to that idea too.
I tried to keep my energy and enthusiasm up and to continue producing work but I’ll be honest. Covid took a big toll on my mental health and, after a year of valiant effort, I kind of fell off a cliff and went to ground.
I stayed there for almost two years.
But I still believe in trying to lift people up with humor and doing my best to spread joy so I dug myself out in late 2022. I began with a revamp of the cover of the first book collection. Having “God” right there on the cover gave some people the wrong idea regarding the type of book they were picking up. After much discussion with fans and family I changed the cover and title to match one of the poems inside which yielded “Some Days Call For Chocolate: and other pick-me-up-poems.”
I’m very happy with this change and it seems to be sparking sales so “yay” for that.
I am also returning to doing “House Party” author events – For these I bring a small harp and talk to book clubs and other groups gathered in people’s homes or on their patios or wherever they are comfortable hosting friends – please reach out to me at [email protected] if you would like to be added to my 2023 list!
