Add me to the billions of fed up consumers tired of rebate shenanigans in general and Maytag and Citibank in particular.
First off, let's get something straight business people - when you offer me a rebate on something, it better well be a g(* d(*&ed rebate - as in money - as in a check that I can pop in the bank. Forget this debit card crap.
Second - if you are going to be such a pain as to send me a debit card, it jolly well better not have any fees attached to it. No "maintenance" fees, no "over limit" fees, no "plastic replacement" fee. (I kid you not - I'm reading the back of the card agreement). It also better not have any limitations on it. Limitations such as "Daily Limit on number of purchase transactions (per day): 12". You know something? If I want to go out and make 300 cash transactions in a day, I get to do it! If I want to use your debit card 300 times in one day - and don't spend more than is on the card - I should damn well be able to.
And lastly - I should be able to spend the dollar amount on that card and walk away from it. Just like a gift card.
Now the last one is the one really ticking me off because I may very well be able to do that. But I don't know if I can do that because, after 35 minutes attempting to talk to Citibank/Maytag customer service and getting switched to 2 different supervisors, no one would answer that simple question. And, are you listening customer service people? - it doesn't matter if I am the card holder for the debit card or even have an account with you in the first place. Whether or not a person can use a debit card and then cancel it is a matter of public record and a question you can, and are probably legally obliged to - answer.
And you wouldn't.
And it's going to cost you.
Because I don't forget stuff like that and I definitely put my money where my mouth is. I didn't buy your washing machine because I love your nameplate - I bought it because the price was right and there was a rebate.
Fool me once........
